What do I do if I don't get a dial tone when trying to connect to dial-up Internet?

The first thing you should do is make sure there is a dial tone on the phone jack that the computer is connected to.  If that is fine, try a different phone cord.  If those are both fine, there is a good chance that your modem may have been hit by an electrical surge.  If this is true, you will need to install a new modem.
